About POWS
What is a Warming Station?
A warming station is an overnight short-term emergency shelter that operates when temperatures or a combination of precipitation and temperature become dangerously inclement. The main purpose is the prevention of death or injury from exposure to the elements. The East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC) serves as a warming station for our unhoused neighbors in Plano, TX.
The Plano Overnight Warming Station (POWS) seeks to:
- Provide transportation from Parker Road DART station and the POWS facility
- Serve meals, snacks, and hospitality in a secure environment
- Provide support services to address recurring homelessness issues
- Recruit and train faith communities and other volunteers to staff the POWS facility
